The review and rating system is not good.
Posted by menace on July 11, 2007
It seems as though any schmuck can post a review of any video and raise or lower its rating whether it deserves it or not.

I am seeing good vids get tanked by ratings from folks that have no videos of their own posted.

Can this system be changed?

I know what you are saying! Same thing happens at Youtube. Crude, foul language responses from teenaged imbeciles, and then you check their account and they have never posted a video either.

Even if it were to be changed to allow reviews only by those who have uploaded videos, how do you weed out the guys who just cut and paste videos from other sites? Or the guys who post videos of fullsize on a model video website?

Well thankfully so far I have yet to see any crude language used here.

But it does honestly seem as though the rating system should be set up so that reviewers should only be able to raise a videos standing and not take away from it.

As it is now the sliders that are used to score an individual video are kind of ambiguous and can lead to an unintentional low score on a video you review.

And I think your're right about teh 733t kiddiez causing some of the issues we see here. ;) So much has gone wrong since parents stopped correcting their kids eh.

Personally I miss the old RCU video setup.

Well now, what a coincidence..

I post a less than flattering comment and all of a sudden two of my videos fall out of the positions they held the "most viewed" section. Too funny

worst rating system that could be created.

How would any of you suggest this be resolved, addressed and improved upon? We need constructive criticism and ideas. The nature of any rating system affords anyone the opportunity to rate something, good or bad. With volume the high and low noise ratings get washed out.

Where are there better rating systems? How do they do it? For those who complain why not suggest a solution so that we may implement?

I dont like the catergorizing of the rating. i feel we are all here to watch videos for entertainment. jugding vids by 'informative' or 'would you recommend' or or 'appropiate for what age', i feel doesnt give the vids there true rating. i myself have screwed up and gave a video and lower rating than i wanted to. and as far as i know you cant change the rating after you made it?. i think it should be a straight scale 1-5, or 1-10.

And yet again for no reason that would make sense to any sane person I get a video review from some puppy kicker that hoses that videos standings.

I know, how about allowing reviewers rate the reviews of each other!!!

Heres an idea; many forums wont allow you to post pictures until you get to a certain post count. Gives you a little time "to gain experience" before your turned loose. Lets do that here. Only allow ratings and comments to those who have posted X-number of videos. That way, you know the person is not hater-rating as a troll w/ no vids to his name. Lets say a 3 video minimum must be submitted before you get rating privledges.

How do I contact "marc", the channel administrator? When I click "Support" - "contact the channel admin" I get his profile where it says "Online contact for marc is restricted to friends only". I wanted to report a user who is leaving f-word, a-word and such comments...
