Welcome to the new redesigned rcuvideos
Posted by marc on April 04, 2007
As you can see we have upgraded to a new video sharing application platform. This new platform allows you to not only upload videos directly but to share them and categorize them from any other video sharing website.

You may also add widgets to your website easily and embed videos from here to any website.

Posting videos, registering, viewing and using all the tools here is completely 100% free and advertising supported. Enjoy!

What happened to the videos we already uploaded? Do we have to do it all again on the new site??
Posted by TheHobbyGuy on April 05, 2007
Looks like everything was lost! Why were we not warned? All The embedded video we put in other sites does not work now either. I think we all liked having a video site that was run by and for RC enthusiasts only. :( I think I will have to start a video section over at TheHobbyguy.tv.

I am warming up to this site. I can understand the switch, bandwidth must have been a killer. BUT! A warning would have been nice. :) All the old embedded video has to be replaced. Another good point, is my lowly videos are now on top. ;) Take that mister twin ducted fan stealth RC Bomber with your 18,000,000 views. My kids RC Buggy video is on top now.... LOL!

You do have to reupload unfortunately. Our drive failed on the old rcuvideo server. I do have backup of everything but I was nearing a decision to switch to a better application going forward to serve the community and the drive failure forced my hand.

I could have rebuilt it from the backup but the time to get it live would have been longer and going forward this application leapfrogs what the old one was capable of or would be capable of doing. If you poke around here a bit you will see why plus there are more developments coming here to make it even more advantageous.

Currently I cannot do a direct import here but as you will find uploading here is much easier than doing so on the old site and much faster. Also you can "import" from any other video sharing site if your videos exist on youtube, google videos, yahoo videos, etc...just pop the link in and you're done!

It would have been nice to know! I beleive you shouldn't ever make a change that content posted by others will be lost unless you explain this first and give them the option to back up, save, etc. I understand the HD crash but I know you back up at least once a day (you should).

SO - why is when I re-upload the video does not play but you can hear the audio. Also the non playing still is moer grainy than it was in the previous format.

losing all the video content and making the many links to this site useless without any warning is completely unethical.. making your members re-register and re-upload is even worse.. it seems the people arent coming back very fast either.. dead links on message boards are pretty bad advertisements

What's going on here? I could live with lost videos (because I didn't have many posted before) and re-registering, but now this is nothing more than YouTube or Google video with all kinds of smut... I was watching the ME 262 Swallow video and after it ended I had three video links pop up completely un RC related... one was about a man's blind date, and one about "how to shower", and the third was "Girls Salt Water Fishing". The last one's thumbnail was the backside of three lady's in bikinis... This is not what I expected from a reputable site like RCU... I started posting here to get away from this kind of garbage... What gives?

I'm sorry but I don't buy the hard disk excuse. You threw away something good that the customers were happy with and had invested a lot of their time. I don't see anything here that will convince anyone it won't happen again.

So what are the max file sizes for a video upload in here?
Posted by marc on April 11, 2007
Sorry that a few of you are displeased with the change. Many are also pleased by it and we had to make a decision to get the site back online. I do have all the content saved just in case somebody needed a copy of something but still don't have a server prepped to get it online and accessible.

This platform is far superior to what we had before. Regarding the off topic ads were those the google ads or ads at the beginning or end of the video? if those are off topic I can look into that and either fix them or remove them altogether if we cannot target them. If they are off topic I was not aware of this as I have not seen any yet.

cybertom - not only did the members invest time in it but so did I personally. Not just time but money. Over $10,000 in cash and development and hosting cost. I never ran a single ad either on the site so my recoup was ZERO. I know some people lost some but I am sure my time and money lost far exceeded any individuals here by many orders of magnitude. If I had a better solution I would have done it but the decision that was made was in the best interests of the members long term. My loss I will never recover.

i dont really like the design is this only temporary?

Let me see if i can help a bit.

I'm with Magnify.net - the platform that RCUvideos is now built on. We're venture backed, we have a solid server solution that is growing to meet the needs of more than 4,500 communities like this one. So - whatever issues or concerns you have - we're hear to listen and respond. Regarding add targeting... that's clearly a concern for us too (my 9 year old LOVES the RCU site!). So please post here, or email Support (at) Magnify.net - we're hear to help and support this community in any way we can.

I used to visit the old site frequently, but due to other events haven't seen it for a while until today. I liked the old site better. This one is too frustrating, seems that every other video I select has a 'content invalid' message. Big time waster. I'll try to remember to come backwhen its got its act together.
Posted by marc on April 18, 2007
I've heard of a few people getting content invalid message but I cannot duplicate this on IE7 or firefox with win xp. if you get this message please note what your configuration is so we can see why only a few of you are getting this error

I am getting them on IE7 version 7.0.5730.11 using WinXP w/SP2
Posted by MNadmin on April 21, 2007
We've tracked the error down to videos posted on Daily Motion, and believe we've resolved it for IE7. Please post here - or better to Support (at) magnify.net

I think the platform is fine, but I REALLY don't want to see non-aircraft videos posted. I only want to sift through aircraft-related content.

I also think it would be helpful if the videos were broadly categorized, such as scale rc aviation verses 3d rc aviation.

I'm personally not a fan of 3d helicopter videos. I find it hard to watch the content because you can't see the helis very well. So, being able to locate scale-only footage would be nice from my point of view.

Also, this Post a Response box has a problem with it. If you type very far, you can 't see your text as you type.

There are a number of ways to have the site provide more specific searches. Folks like katatv.magnify.net have built some neat pre-built searches on their site.

Thanks for the bug report on the Post Response box, i'm not seeing it, what platform are you on (mac/pc - and what browser are you using?).

I used to be able to direct those who were interested in seeing my videos very easily, now how do I do it? Where's the list of videos. It was so easy before, "Member Videos", "Airplanes" and the list was in front of you. What Happened?
